Magical Sauce

As parents we are always worrying about the kids not eating enough veg. This versatile sauce is perfect to give the kids some fun but healthy food. You can use it on top of pizza, for pasta, as a base for curry or chilli. Just about anything and its pretty good for adults too 😉 I like to make it up thick as I can add stock or water to thin it, as per recipe. The amounts below are for a batch to divide and freeze, but you can adjust as needed.

*tip* freeze in ikea freezer bags flat and you can stack them up to be more efficient with space.  you can also add chilli flakes when you add the dried herbs if you like it hot !

  • Tablespoon of olive oil
  • Two Onions
  • Two celery sticks
  • Two red peppers
  • Two yellow peppers
  • Two carrots
  • Two courgettes
  • Two tins of good quality Italian chopped tomatoes
  • One pint of veg stock (oxo stock cube is ok!)
  • Two tablespoons of tomato puree
  • Four bulbs of garlic grated
  • four teaspoons mixed herbs (or just oregano or fresh whatever you have!)
  • Salt/pepper to taste


  1. Heat the olive oil
  2. Roughly Chop all veg
  3. Add to pan until soften
  4. Add garlic and fry for a few minutes
  5. add tomato puree, tinned tomatoes and stock and bring to the boil. Simmer until veg is soft and stock has reduced by half
  6. Blend into a puree
  7. Put mixture back into the pan and add herbs simmer for 5 minutes and season to taste
